My name is Weixin Zhuang, come from Xiamen, Fujian, a very beautiful city on the south-eastern coast of China. Before I’m a student at SocDoc, the major I studied in was Sociology, which required me to think critically and honed my skills in observing people in social life. I strongly believe the academic preciseness, value, and knowledge I learned from social science will benefit a lot for my future career in filmmaking. As for my previous video-related experiences, there were two internships. One is the intern at the visual team of the SixthTone, I was assistant to all the journalists there for video shooting and editing. Later on, I had a few chances to do my own projects, which was published too. Another one is the assistant video producer at NYU Shanghai, worked for a research institution belongs to its library. There was a studio where I worked in, all the video produced by the studio like online courses, interviews, and the other video-related works were part of my job duty. The visual arts including film and photography are always the interests I’d like to dig in. Of course, some of them are documentary films, and I truly admire the way they tell a story. Apart from that, my participation in various Chinese independent documentary projects during my undergraduate also deepens my thoughts about documentary films. However, what I saw before was only a glance of this industry, there are lots more here waiting for me to discover.
