SocDoc Alumnus profile: Amitabh Joshi

SocDoc Alumnus Amitabh Joshi (Class of 2013) became a filmmaker because it gives him an opportunity to dive deep into his many areas of interest - from environmentalism to astrophysics.

His SocDoc thesis film, Tashi’s Turbine, an uplifting tale of a small Nepalese village’s attempt to harness the renewable energy of the wind, will be broadcast on PBS World Channel on Sunday, January 29. Tashi's Turbine is directed by Amitabh Joshi and produced by Erik Spink, who he met while at SocDoc. Now they teach SocDoc's Camera & Sound Labs together, and have formed a production company, Vacant Light, which produces documentaries and commissions for non-profits and commericial clients, particularly focused on youth-related issues and environmental sustainability.

Take a look at this short interview with Amitabh, a part of an ongoing series of interviews between SocDoc students & alumni. SocDoc Alumnus: Amitabh Joshi was produced by James Stuart (Class of 2017). Apply to join our community of illustrious filmmakers by February 1!
