Oscar Nominees: "Life, Animated" and "Joe's Violin"!

Huge Congrats to the Oscar Nominees this morning! We're proud to have our faculty & alumni a part of a few of the nominated films.

In the Documentary Short Subject category, nominees include Joe's Violin - filmed by Bob Richman (camera faculty), produced by friend of SocDoc & head of DOC NYC head Raphaela Neihausen and directed by Kahane Cooperman. In Joe’s Violin, a donated musical instrument forges an improbable friendship between a 91-year-old Holocaust survivor and a 12-year-old Bronx school girl, showing how the power of music can bring light in the darkest of times and how a small act can have a great impact.

Life, Animated stars in the Documentary Feature category. SocDoc directing faculty Richard Hankin is Consulting Editor & one of the film's Associate Producers is SocDoc alum Lindsay RichardsonLife, Animated is the inspirational story of Owen Suskind, a young man who was unable to speak as a child until he and his family discovered a unique way to communicate by immersing themselves in the world of classic Disney animated films.

And, congrats to nominees & SocDoc guests O.J.: Made In America director Ezra Edelman and Extremis & Life, Animated producer Julie Goldman! Here's the full list of nominees.
